Opened as the new Grand Palace of Varieties on 26th November 1900 (the name clearly playing against its near neighbour the Grand Hall, later The Imperial). Seating was 1,526 and the architect was E.A.Woodrow. The name changed to the Grand in 1946, and then to Essoldo by 1950. The Grand closed in 1963 showing
The Black Buccaneer and
Master Spy.
The venue opened as a Bingo Hall in October 1963, which lasted until the late 1980s, and it is now a successful part of the Vince Power group of music venues.
