Cinema Theatre Association
Dedicated to cinema preservation in theUK, the CTA campaigns for the protection of architecturally important cinemas and runs a comprehensive archivee. its activities encompass the study of all cinema buildings, however humble, as well as live theatres, music halls and those entertainment buildings now in use as bingo halls or for other purposes.
The Cinema Organ Society
The Cinema Organ Society aims to preserve and promote where possible the traditional cinema or theatre pipe organ for the enjoyment of existing and future generations, and encourage and participate in restoration of these organs.
Mercia Cinema Society
"Our declared purpose is to encourage, promote, and publish research on cinema building history (which includes theatres which have been used for film). We are the largest publisher of books on cinema buildings, the architects, and the owners in the country."
The Projected Picture Trust
The PTT aims to not only locate film projection and display equipment being destroyed, but to renovate it, preserve it and exhibit it for the enjoyment of the public at large.

Society for Cinema & Media Studies
"Founded in 1959, SCMS is a professional organization of college and university educators, filmmakers, historians, critics, scholars, and others devoted to the study of the moving image. " They organise a conference, sponsor Cinema Journal. Their forum provides a useful list of upcoming conferences in its Calls for Papers and Creative Work.
Association Française de Recherche sur l'Histoire du Cinéma (AFRHC)
The AFRHC (web site in French) publishes a journal, 1895, and provides a platform for leading (mostly French) cinema history researchers.
Le Groupe de recherche sur l'avènement et la formation des institutions cinématographique et scénique (GRAFICS)
Based at University of Montreal, this French language web site provides access to a large database of early silent films, indexed in great detail. Also listings of researchers, research activities, publications and much more.
La Fédération Internationale des Archives du Film (FIAF)
The International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF) brings together institutions dedicated to rescuing films both as cultural heritage and as historical documents. FIAF is a collaborative association of the world's leading film archives whose purpose has always been to ensure the proper preservation and showing of motion pictures. Today, more than 120 archives in over 65 countries collect, restore, and exhibit films and cinema documentation spanning the entire history of film. FIAF published the biannual Journal of Film Preservation, available free as PDF downloads (1995 to 2003 issues).
The International Association for Media and History
An organization of filmmakers, broadcasters, archivists and scholars dedicated to historical inquiry into film, radio, television, and related media, encouraging scholarly research into the relations between history and the media as well as the production of historically informed documentaries, television series, and other media texts.
